July 26, 2016:  Caribbean nationals may not be among the speakers at the Democratic National Convention, which gaveled in yesterday afternoon in the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia. But a Trinidad-born migrant is actively working in press operations for the Convention.

D’shawna C. Bernard is special assistant for press operations at the Democratic National Convention Committee. Her day begins at 5 a.m. and includes reading the morning news and browsing all the #DemsInPhilly social platforms, according to her diary at refinery29.com.

It also includes a call to check in with her family in Trinidad while officially getting rolling, note book in hand, emails checked by 9 a.m. Bernard also has more than 600 volunteers depending on her for all things “press ops,” including their travel and housing needs.

This Caribbean migrant previously worked as a consultant at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and the USA-ANC Centenary Committee and as an intern in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Trinidad and Tobago. She is a graduate of the Women in Politics Institute-American University, according to her Linkedin profile.
