News Americas, NEW YORK, N.Y., Thurs. July 26, 2018: A U.S. citizen who arrived on a flight from Port of Spain, Trinidad is now behind bars and facing federal narcotics smuggling charges after she was found with more than clothes in her suitcase.
Diamonaire Smith was stopped at JFK Airport in Queens, NY on Monday, July 23rd. During the baggage inspection U. S. Customs and Border Protection officers o said they noted that the sides of her suitcase felt unusually thick.
The CBP officers thereafter probed the suitcase which revealed a white powdery substance. The white powdery substance field-tested positive for cocaine.
Smith was arrested for the importation of a controlled substance and was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations for investigation. The total weight of cocaine seized was approximately five lbs. with an estimated street value of $85,000.
Smith will be prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District Court of New York.
