NO, I don’t smoke marijuana nor consume it in any form just in case you ask but that is not the point. Not that there is anything wrong with doing so in California, Colorado and plenty of other states across our nation.
Barack Obama, growing up in bucolic Hawaii, spent much of his time playing basketball and smoking pot with Hawaii’s elite kids when it was still illegal, and he as you know, he went on to become President of the United States.
By the way, Obama is a ‘fellow traveler,’ to an extent here for continuing to classify marijuana, along with heroin, as the two most dangerous drugs under DEA regulations and “more dangerous” than cocaine and various other drugs for all 8 years of the Obama Presidency. Anyway …
The point of this week’s episode here in Trump’s America is the position President Trump articulated again today through his Stooge, the so-called Attorney General Jeff Sessions. It is a very useful metaphor for the entire morally corrupt outdated throwback Trump Presidency that is insulting our nation globally.
Plus the fact that a useful well articulated position on marijuana can become a bellwether issue for those who try to rid us of Trump in 2020.

Back to marijuana … clearly in response to the largest state in our nation – California on New Year’s Day – making marijuana use completely legal for all adults in any form they wish to consume, just like alcohol. In response, Trump’s White House and in the person of the aforementioned Trump Stooge, Jeff Sessions proclaimed, on Thursday ..
This from the New York Times: “Trump Administration Takes Step That Could Threaten Marijuana Legalization Movement” ….
“WASHINGTON — The viability of the multibillion-dollar marijuana legalization movement was thrown into new doubt on Thursday when the Trump administration freed prosecutors to more aggressively enforce federal laws against the drug in states that have decriminalized its production and sale, most recently California.”
“Attorney General Jeff Sessions, long a vocal opponent of the legalization of marijuana, rescinded an Obama-era policy that discouraged federal prosecutors in most cases from bringing charges wherever the drug is legal under state laws.”

So here is the point – this is not about marijuana as much as it is it is about what happens when a Clown like Donald Trump becomes President and worse, when he appoints other Clowns to important government positions.
The very same day that The Trump White House made this outrageous announcement today, they also announced their decision to END any and all restrictions regarding off shore oil drilling anywhere off the United States coast – coast to coast, east coast, west coast, gulf coast – after earlier also eliminating regulations to lessen the potential of more catastrophic oil spills.
Back to marijuana … This from The Wall Street Journal: “Justice Department to Rescind Obama-Era Relaxation of Marijuana Prosecution”
“President Donald Trump said in a 2016 television interview that legalization should be up to the states. Asked about the president’s view Thursday, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said, “Whether it’s marijuana or whether it’s immigration, the president strongly believes that we should enforce federal law.”
Here is what the Governor of Colorado, where marijuana has been completely and successfully legal for a number of years with no bad effects said abut Session’s announcement as quoted in this WSJ article …..
“If he (Sessions) is going to go out and have his attorney in Colorado suddenly stop working heroin cases and stop working sex-trafficking cases so they can prosecute small marijuana dispensaries, I can’t imagine that’s in his best interest.”
Governor, of course it is in his best interests. Jeff Sessions best interests in his mind is to do whatever Jeff Sessions believes in and that has nothing to do with the Constitution or logic; just what his warped mind tells him to do.
This new Trump war on marijuana is symptomatic of the entire mindset of this Trump Administration – to cater to the whimsy of its political operators and play to its small base of right wing radicals at every turn – whether the subject is marijuana, oil drilling, taxes, immigration and everything else.
Layer on top of this the ultimate hypocrisy of Trump and his administration.
At every step, Trump proclaims the Federal govt. has too much power; that we must return power to the States and the people. REALLY? State after state, and local voters in many places, including now the largest state in the Union California, have affirmed their right to approve marijuana either for recreational or medical use so what does Trump and his Stooge do ….
They declare WAR on the American people and their basic rights.
