News Americas, TORONTO, Canada, Fri. June 8, 2018: Two Caribbean leaders will be present at this year’s G7 in Canada, even though the Caribbean is not a member of the affluent Group of Seven.

Chairman of the 15-member Caribbean Community (CARICOM) grouping, President Jovenel Moise of Haiti and Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness, are the two Caribbean leaders who have been invited to attend the June 8th – 9th event at the invitation of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

PM Holness is expected to give a speech to summit delegates, who will include US President Donald Trump. This will be the first time a Jamaican prime minister will address a G7 Summit.

Moise will not have a speaking slot.

The summit will focus on issues such as building resilient coasts and communities, ocean knowledge and science, and sustainable oceans and fisheries. The leaders will also explore how to best address pressing challenges, including plastic in oceans and illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.

Top delegates include: Mauricio Macri, President of Argentina and Chair of the G20; Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Bangladesh; Uhuru Kenyatta, President of Kenya; Hilda Heine, President of the Marshall Islands; Erna Solberg, Prime Minister of Norway; Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda and Chair of the African Union; Macky Sall, President of Senegal; Danny Faure, President of Seychelles; Cyril Ramaphosa, President of South Africa; Nguyễn Xuân Phúc, Prime Minister of Vietnam; Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund; José Ángel Gurría, Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development; António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations and Kristalina Georgieva, Chief Executive Officer of the World Bank.

The G-7 group consists of the nations of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States.
