News Americas, WASHINGTON, D.C., Fri. Oct. 7, 2011: U.S.Secretary of State Hillary Clinton wants a much more planned trickle down of wealth in Latin America.

Clinton, speaking at the fourth Pathways to Prosperity in the Americas, called on free trade partners from Latin America to make an bigger effort to distribute the benefits of trade among their people.

“Just having the benefits from trade and business go to a small group of people, to perpetuate inequality – that has to end,” said Clinton.

Though Latin America has enjoyed strong economic growth in the past decade, and managed to avoid the worst effects of the global economic crisis of 2008, income disparity in the region remains the most skewed in the world.

Clinton also urged the US Congress to quickly ratify free trade agreements between the United States and Colombia, Panama and South Korea.
