News Americas, WASHINGTON, D.C., Fri. Feb. 23, 2018: Forget “nation of immigrants.” It’s now all about enforcement it seems, under the Donald Trump U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, (USCIS,) which as of yesterday, dropped the term from its mission statement.

Prior to Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018, the USCIS’ mission statement read: “USCIS secures America’s promise as a nation of immigrants by providing accurate and useful information to our customers, granting immigration and citizenship benefits, promoting an awareness and understanding of citizenship, and ensuring the integrity of our immigration system.”

But as of last night, the new statement is more in line with the Trump agenda of enforcement.

A News Americas check of the site last night revealed that the mission statement is now as follows: “U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services administers the nation’s lawful immigration system, safeguarding its integrity and promise by efficiently and fairly adjudicating requests for immigration benefits while protecting Americans, securing the homeland, and honoring our values.”

In a statement, USCIS Director L. Francis Cissna, said the new statement is “clearly defines the agency’s role in our country’s lawful immigration system and the commitment we have to the American people.”

Additionally, Cissna stated: “The American people, through Congress, have entrusted USCIS with the stewardship of our legal immigration programs that allow foreign nationals to visit, work, live, and seek refuge in the United States. We are also responsible for ensuring that those who naturalize are dedicated to this country, share our values, assimilate into our communities, and understand their responsibility to help preserve our freedom and liberty.”

The director also ended on a note of enforcement adding: “It is a pleasure serving with you as we continue to faithfully administer and protect the integrity of our nation’s lawful immigration system.”
