News Americas, DUBAI, UAE, Fri. July 22, 2011: Two former West Indies cricket great have made it on to the Peoples’ Dream team, XI that’s set to play at Lord’s today.
Former skipper Brian Lara and former top bowler, Curtly Ambrose, made the team following votes from 250,000 cricket lovers from across the world.
Fans voted on the International Cricket Council’s official website, www.icc-cricket.com, using a short list provided by the game’s governing body, to pick their leading eleven, as part of the activities to commemorate the 2,000th Test Match.
Four Australians, four Indians and one Pakistani also made the team. The final selection is as follows: Virender Sehwag, Sunil Gavaskar, Donald Bradman, Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Kapil Dev, Adam Gilchrist, Shane Warne, Wasim Akram, Curtly Ambrose and Glenn McGrath.
“The huge interest generated during the past month was amazing as media and supporters worldwide speculated and then selected the fan’s Greatest Test team of all time. It supports our view of the everlasting popularity of Test match cricket,” said Haroon Lorgat, ICC Chief Executive.
A series of activities are planned during this week in the build-up to and during the England-India Test match to celebrate the 2,000th Test.
